Spanish playmaker Pablo Hernandez, who has been so pivotal to success at Leeds this season, is set to miss the game with a hamstring strain:
His loss is massive for Leeds, for whom much of their creative attacking play comes through the Spaniard. His injury will leave Leeds looking to either Kalvin Phillips or Alex Mowatt to fill his shoes.
There was of course more positive injury news. Garry Monk confirmed that Eunan O’Kane and Stuart Dallas had shaken off knocks that prevented them from representing their countries in the international break and that Lewie Coyle and Liam Bridcutt were on track in their respective injury comebacks:
Leeds will no doubt miss Hernandez for the clash with table-topping Newcastle but must do their best to find the right formula to defeat their rivals without their most creative force
