Leeds United have been on a superb run of form of late.
Speaking to reporters following his side’s impressive 2-0 win over Aston Villa yesterday, Leeds boss Garry Monk explained how their loss to Birmingham City in August inspired a team meeting which led to the wonderful run that has seen them climb to fourth in the Championship table, as quoted by the Birmingham Mail.
The Whites have won five of their last six league games, with their only loss during that period coming against league leaders Newcastle United, and promotion to the Premier League now looks like a genuine possibility for Monk’s men.

Following his side’s win over the Villans, Monk spoke to the media, and highlighted their 2-1 defeat to the Blues at Elland Road in August as a key turning point in his side’s season, as quoted by the Birmingham Mail:
“I talked after the Birmingham game where I felt naivety and apprehension was holding us back. I talked after that game about young players needing to grow up very quickly and become men very quickly and since that point they’ve really taken it on board. Trying to take that fear and apprehension out of them is never easy, but it’s about giving them the confidence to go out on the pitch and compete against teams like Aston Villa who are vastly more experienced than us.”

The West Yorkshire outfit now sit comfortably inside the play-off spots, and their focus will now surely be on making inroads into the seven points gap between themselves ad second placed Brighton & Hove Albion.
Their next two games could potentially define their season, as they face second and third in the table, with a trip to Brighton followed by a visit form Reading.
A return of four points from those games would see Leeds perfectly placed for a promotion push, as they head into the Christmas period.
