Sol Bamba celebrates after scoring the first goal for Leeds United
Leeds United boss Garry Monk has held his first pre-match press conference as manager of the Yorkshire club today and used the opportunity to announce who would be his captain throughout the 2016-17 season.
The former Swansea boss confirmed that Sol Bamba would remain as captain at Elland Road for the foreseeable future.
The Ivorian took over from central-defensive partner Liam Cooper as club captain when appointed by Uwe Rosler. Leeds have had another manager between the German and the new boss but Bamba has remained captain.

The Yorkshire Evening Post quotes him as having this to say about Bamba:
“Sol Bamba was club captain last year and I see no reason to change it. But I am working with a group of leaders.”
The big man will now be hoping to live up to expectations at the back for Leeds this season.
In other news from the press conference Monk did confirm that Leeds will not be taking up an option to sign Gabriele Perico.
The full-back arrived on trial this summer and featured against Atalanta recently at Elland Road.

However, the Italian, who played under Massimo Cellino’s reign at Cagliari, will not be offered a deal with the club – Monk stating:
“He did well but he wasn’t right for us so he’s gone back and that’s the end of that.”
