Garry Monk has told BBC Radio Leeds that Kemar Roofe is pushing for a start at Leeds United.

Roofe has started just two of Leeds’ last seven matches, with Monk regularly overlooking the attacker.

However, after Leeds’ failure to win in either of their last two outings, there have been calls for the 24-year-old to be recalled.

And Monk has suggested that Roofe is getting closer to returning to his starting line-up.

“Yeah, as are a lot of the players,” Monk said, when asked whether Roofe was knocking on his door for a start.

“I think all the players have improved massively. They have a long way to go in terms of their development, but I think they development of the group is there to see and Kemar is one of them.”

Leeds have failed to score in either of their last two fixtures, and they have fallen to defeats against both Reading and Brentford.

In those games Pablo Hernandez has struggled, which means the Spanish attacking midfielder’s place could come under threat.

Leeds are next in action against Preston North End, in what will be a huge match for their promotion hopes.

If the Whites are able to pick up the victory, Monk’s side’s place in the top six will be almost secure – but a defeat would leave them looking nervously over their shoulders.
