Leeds United boss Garry Monk has told the Yorkshire Evening Post that Gaetano Berardi has now fully recovered from injury.

Berardi has missed two months’ worth of action, after picking up a hamstring tear early on in the campaign.

The right-back has now completed two full matches for Leeds’ under-23 squad, and Monk is convinced that Berardi is ready to join the first-team again.

“He was fine and he’ll be back in the group,” he said, ahead of Leeds’ match against Wigan Athletic on Tuesday night.

Berardi’s return will be a boost for Leeds, as he was one of their most consistent performers last term.

The Swiss defender faces a fight to win his place back in the team, as Luke Ayling has been in good form during his absence.

Leeds have won five of their last seven matches to start moving up the Championship table.

The Whites were beaten in their most recent outing against Derby County, though, and they will be determined to get back to winning ways by beating a struggling Wigan side tomorrow.
