The Leeds boss was not too disheartened by the defeat.

Garry Monk believes there was reasons to be positive from Leeds United’s match against Derby County – despite losing the game 1-0.

Leeds played well in the game at the iPro Stadium but ended up coming away from the game empty-handed after a Johnny Russell goal in the second half.

But Leeds had their chances. Marcus Antonsson hit the post with a curling effort whilst Kyle Bartley hit the bar in an even game which perhaps deserved a draw as its final result.

But despite the loss Monk remained positive. He suggested Leeds continue to look good both on their travels and at home, even if they do not always get the end result.

He told TV Yorkshire:

“I guess the positive for us is that home and away as a team we are showing that we can stay within games and be competitive and when we do play our best football we can be very threatening.

“We probably didn’t play our best football today and still could have got something from the game.”

Leeds have certainly been in good form recently and will feel aggrieved with the manner in which they lost their last two games – against Bristol City and Derby.

Next up for Monk’s men is Wigan Athletic this week in the Championship.

It is a game they will have high hopes of winning and if they perform like they did against Derby then victory is a likely reward.
