Sheffield Wednesday’s next opponents are Garry Monk’s Leeds United at Elland Road.

Leeds United boss Garry Monk has told BBC Radio Leeds that he was not surprised by Sheffield Wednesday’s defeat to Brentford in midweek due to the nature of the Championship.
The Owls went into Tuesday’s game sixth in the table and with a chance to move three points ahead of the Whites heading into this Saturday’s Yorkshire derby between the two sides at Elland Road this Saturday.
However, the formbook was turned on its head as Wednesday – who had won their last four – were beaten 2-1 at Hillsborough by a Bees side that had lost their previous two.
But despite the coupon-busting result, Monk insisted that the unpredictability of the division meant that a Brentford win should never have been dismissed before the contest.
Sheffield Wednesday manager Carlos Carvalhal
“Not really surprised because, like I’ve said many times, this is the Championship,” he told BBC Radio Leeds when asked about whether it came as a shock.
“This is what the Championship can do, it’s extremely hard to win games. There’s so many games in short periods, this is what the Championship throws you. On any given day, you can be beaten but you can also, on any given day, win.”

The unpredictability is arguably not needed to make Saturday’s Yorkshire derby intriguing. There is practically nothing separating the two teams in the table currently – the sides are level on points and Leeds’ goal difference is one goal better – so it may perhaps just come down to the smallest of margins.
But that unpredictability will also ensure that regardless of this weekend’s result, neither team will be getting too carried away if they win and will not be mourning for too long if they lose.
