The veteran goalkeeper continues to be the number one stopper at Leeds.

Leeds United picked up a comfortable 4-1 win against Preston North End in the Championship this weekend. Goals from Kemar Roofe, Hadi Sacko, Souleymane Doukara and Pablo Hernandez did the damage for Leeds – with Marnick Vermijl scoring for Preston.

But whilst it was the attacking prowess that seemed to give Leeds their win, plenty of cfedit also had to go to the performance of goalkeeper Robert Green.

The experienced stopper has found himself criticised recently, after making the odd mistake here or there.

But by and large he has been in good form for Leeds throughout the campaign and added some stability to the club’s defence.

He played well against Preston. The former England international was commanding off his line and dealt with everything that came his way well throughout the game.

It was a performance that certainly impressed his manager.

After the game, Garry Monk told TV Yorkshire:

“We work a lot in the week preparing the players for what to expect. Rob was one of them that contributed excellently.

“He did a fantastic save at one point to save what would have been a goal.

“That’s great, but that’s your job. Everyone is here to concentrate.”

Green will be hoping to remain the number one stopper at Leeds throughout the season, despite pressure from number two Marco Silvestri.

If he continues to put in assured performances like this then Leeds will not regret keeping him between the posts.
