Rangers are reportedly in the race for Sheffield Wednesday defender Morgan Fox, with the left back out of contract this summer.

The Gers have a star left back in their ranks in Borna Barisic, but they undoubtedly need to bring in another option there.

Andy Halliday and Jon Flanagan have been offering cover and competition for Barisic, but both players are leaving this summer with their contracts ending.

It’s imperative that Steven Gerrard finds another left back to cover for Barisic, and it’s believed that Fox is a target for the Gers.

TEAMtalk claim that Rangers are in the race for Fox, alongside Bournemouth, Burnley, Middlesbrough, Norwich City and West Bromwich Albion.

Fox, 26, will become a free agent at the end of the month as things stand. The Welshman has racked up 102 appearances for Wednesday since a January 2017 move from Charlton Athletic.

Now, Owls boss Garry Monk has told The Star that he has told both Fox and Steven Fletcher that he wants them to stay, and talks have been held.

Monk ultimately left the decision in their hands, meaning Rangers could still have a chance to swoop in and bring Fox to Ibrox.

“I have had conversations with them and they know very much I want them to stay,” said Monk. “The club has been in talks with them. Of course, when this (pandemic) hit, we were in conversations with those two and we still are in conversations with them. My hope is that they will stay. We would like them to stay beyond this season and they know that.”

“It will then be down the decisions of those players with the conversations they are having contractually with the club. I am hopeful. I want them to stay and the two of them know that. Hopefully there can be an agreement and an understanding of how the situation has changed with this pandemic and when it hit, and how that has changed a lot of the landscape across football,” he added.
