Leeds United have missed out on a place in the Championship playoffs this season.

Leeds United head coach Garry Monk has told The Times that he wants to remain in charge of the first team next season.

Monk was appointed the Leeds head coach in the summer of 2016 and has a contract with the Whites until the end of the season.

The former Swansea City manager has done a wonderful job at Elland Road and looked certain to finish in the top six of the Championship just a few weeks ago.

However, recent results have been disappointing, and the Whites are now certain not to end up in the playoffs.

According to a recent report in The Sun, Monk will not be given a new contract after failing to guide Leeds to the Championship playoffs.

The 38-year-old, though, has stated that he wants to remain in charge of the West Yorkshire outfit next season.

“Of course, I want to stay, but that will be in the discussions I have,” Monk told The Times.

Monk has been superb for Leeds, and it would make sense for the Championship club to give him a new contract.

If the Whites can retain the services of players such as Chris Wood and Pontus Jansson, then the Elland Road outfit can challenge for the playoffs again next season.
