Leeds United head coach Garry Monk has revealed to BBC Sport that he has had initial talks with club co-owner Andrea Radrizzani.

Monk has failed to guide Leeds to the top six of the Championship this season and is out of contract in the summer.

The former Swansea City manager was appointed the head coach of the Whites in the summer of 2016.

The 2016-17 Championship campaign has been a successful one, as the Whites have only narrowly failed to end up in the playoffs.

Monk has revealed that he has held initial talks with Leeds co-owner Radrizzani, and that more discussions will take place.

“I had initial talks yesterday with Mr. Radrizzani – more general talks, really, about the season,” Monk told BBC Sport.

“I have a clear idea of what’s needed to make the next step, which is the promotion season – having experienced Leeds United, I know what’s needed.

“Until I have those discussions, the most important bit is that they understand what I need. They’ll have their ideas on top of that and it’s to see if those ideas are aligned in that sense.”

Monk has done a wonderful job at Leeds, and the former Swansea manager should be handed a new contract.

If the Englishman is backed in the summer transfer window and some very good players are signed, then the West Yorkshire outfit could even push for automatic promotion to the Premier League.
