Birmingham City manager Garry Monk missed out on a play-off spot when he was Leeds United manager a couple of seasons ago.
Garry Monk has honestly stated that it’s ‘good to see’ Leeds United investing in their squad and ‘learning’ from the mistakes they made last season.
The former Whites manager, who guided the club to a seventh-placed finish during the 2016/17 campaign, will host the Yorkshire club when they take on his Birmingham City side on Saturday.
The Blues are five points above the drop zone after being deducted nine points by the EFL and they will be looking to put those troubles behind them by picking up three points against the Whites.
Speaking ahead of his side’s crucial Championship clash at the weekend, Monk spoke honestly about what his former club are doing this season.
“It’s a huge club,” said Monk, as posted by Birmingham’s official Twitter account. “It needs to be in the Premier League. I think it’s good to see, obviously being a good manager there, it’s good to see that they’ve decided to…invest in their squad.
“They’ve learnt from their mistakes, they have made last season. They’ve invested really well in the squad this season and decided that this is the one for them. At this moment in time, they put themselves in a great position.”
This will be a dangerous game for Leeds, who were beaten by the Midlands club during the reverse fixture at Elland Road when Che Adams was the difference-maker on that day.
Marcelo Bielsa will be hoping his team have learnt from those mistakes and can continue their promotion charge by securing another three points.
Last time out, they beat relegation-threatened Millwall in a dramatic fashion, whilst at the same time their promotion rivals, Sheffield United were losing at home to Bristol City.
