Leeds United beat Derby County 1-0 at Elland Road on Friday.
Leeds United moved up into third place on Friday evening, as they beat Derby County 1-0 at Elland Road, much to the delight of Garry Monk and Pep Clotet.
The Whites went into the game having come through a tricky FA Cup tie with Cambridge United by winning 2-1, but it was back to league action for Leeds as they hosted Derby County on Friday.
Leeds United’s Chris Wood celebrates scoring against Derby County
Whilst Leeds had dropped just two points in their previous five games, Derby had been in strong form themselves, putting themselves in contention for a play-off spot.
Leeds were by far the better side in the first half as they peppered the Derby goal, and finally went in front on the stroke of half time as Chris Wood scored his 17th goal of the season in all competitions.

Derby came back into the game in the second half, but couldn’t grab an equaliser as Leeds held strong, and Bradley Johnson’s late red card for the Rams effectively sealed the win for Garry Monk’s men.
Up into third before Huddersfield travelled to take on Sheffield Wednesday this afternoon, Leeds are flying, and look a safe bet for at least a play-off place.
After the final whistle at Elland Road, manager Monk took to Twitter to send a message to fans, stating that he was extremely proud of the players and supporters, and was pleased that Leeds showed their values during Friday’s win.
Monk’s assistant Pep Clotet also took to Twitter, celebrating by posting a video from an empty Elland Road after the final whistle.
