Leeds United lost 4-2 to Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium tonight.
It was a typical United performance in the sense that although they were hammered for the first 47 minutes, which saw Mikel Arteta’s side cruise into a 4-0 lead, they showed a bit of fight and bagged two consolation goals.
Leeds are very much the entertainers this season and therefore neutral fans have been full of praise for Marcelo Bielsa’s outfit.
But another reason to admire the Argentine is his sense of fair play, which Arsenal fans have been praising.
Toward the end of the game, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who scored a hat-trick, was down injured and Bielsa appeared to tell his team to kick the ball out of play to allow treatment for the Gunners hitman.
It was a touch of class that’s synonymous with Bielsa after he demanded Aston Villa be allowed to score an uncontested goal at Elland Road almost two years ago.
Here’s how Arsenal fans reacted to his gesture tonight:
Despite defeat, Bielsa’s side, who are 11th, are class on the field too and it would’ve been so interesting to see how they would’ve fared had Diego Llorente and Robin Koch – their centre-back signings from the summer – not missed most of the campaign.
