Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane netted a hat-trick for England over the weekend.
England manager Gareth Southgate has made it clear that Tottenham striker Harry Kane isn’t ‘undroppable’ for his country despite his recent hat-trick against Bulgaria.
During the early part of the summer, when England were competing in the UEFA Nations League, Kane had just returned from an injury and Southgate shared that they decided they couldn’t ever have a player that was never undroppable.
Without his goals, both Tottenham and England would seriously struggle over a long-term period because it could be argued there isn’t enough cover.
Nonetheless, Kane won’t be dropped for England’s Tuesday night clash against Kosovo, as Southgate shared his thoughts on his player.
“In the summer we decided that he probably wasn’t ready to start,” Southgate told Sky Sports. “I don’t think you can have a player that is undroppable.
“I think that’s a dangerous route for any team. It’s probably not healthy for any individual player. Without wishing to create a load of fuss before the game, it is safe to say I won’t be dropping him against Kosovo. His level of importance is so consistently so high that, it would be a rare occurrence [to drop him].
“But as we have seen, we have to make sure everybody is at the top of their game at all times because we have a great competition for places.”
Kane will be hoping to showcase his goalscoring form once again at St Mary’s when England take on Kosovo in a Euro 2020 qualifier.
If he can continue that form then it’ll bode well for Tottenham because they have produced a number of indifferent performances this season and they are in need of that extra bite to their play.
A lot does depend on whether the likes of Chrisitan Eriksen are starting for Spurs as fans will be hoping to see his name on the teamsheet once again when the North London club take on Crystal Palace at the weekend.
