England Under-21 manager Gareth Southgate is pleased with Manchester United defender Luke Shaw’s attitude.

England Under-21 manager Gareth Southgate has praised Manchester United defender Luke Shaw for his humility.

The former Middlesbrough star is impressed with the left-back’s attitude and told talkSPORT: ‘You only have to talk to Luke Shaw to see how much he enjoyed the two matches.

‘He played extremely well and Croatia were a fantastic test for him. He’s shown humility to come down and fit in with the group and that’s what you hope for but it isn’t a given that that happens’.

Southgate was speaking following the England Under-21s’ victory over Croatia over two legs that saw them qualify for the 2015 UEFA European Under-21 Championship.

England got the better of Croatia 4-2 on aggregate in the tie. Having won the first leg of the tie 2-1 at Molineux last Friday, Southgate’s side defeated Croatia 2-1 in Vinkovci on Tuesday.

Shaw, who was part of England’s senior team at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil in the summer and cost United a reported £27 million to sign from Southampton in the summer transfer window, was involved in both the matches and seems to have made an impression on Southgate.
