After watching Gareth Bale play against Sheffield United on Sunday, one thing was abundantly clear – the Welshman is a deadly finisher.
As WhoScored shows, Tottenham’s No.9 had six shots in total, getting five of them on target while scoring three goals – a clinical display, to say the least.
On that note, clinical is not a word many would use to describe his teammate, Erik Lamela.
The Argentine was signed for £25.7 million shortly after Bale’s £85.3 million move to Real Madrid, and was also handed his vacated No.11 shirt.
He was widely expected to be Bale’s replacement.
However, Bale has embarrassed Lamela since returning to north London.
In what sense? Well, after Sunday’s hat-trick, Bale has now scored more goals for Tottenham since the start of the 2012/13 campaign than Lamela has scored in total for Spurs.
With his 26 goals in 2012/13, and his 14 so far this term, the Wales international has three more goals than Lamela’s overall tally of 37.
The South American has scored his 37 goals in 256 games for Spurs.
That comes despite the fact that Bale was playing for Real Madrid during Lamela’s first seven years at Tottenham.
It’s pretty embarrassing for Lamela that Bale has outscored his total tally for Tottenham in roughly a season-and-a-half of football.
Of course, Bale is a world-class footballer, and also a much better player than Lamela.
Having said that, you would’ve expected the £80,000-a-week man to score at least 40 goals in over seven years at Tottenham, especially seeing as he cost £25.7 million.
Hopefully, Bale’s fine form can motivate Lamela to up his game.
