Gareth Bale has confirmed his Real Madrid exit and that he will become a free agent with a heartfelt post – amid reports claiming he could join Tottenham, Rangers or Newcastle. Bale has spent nine years at Madrid.
Bale, 32, sees his time at Madrid come to an end on a disappointing note, after just seven appearances for Carlo Ancelotti’s side in 2021-22. But he leaves an icon, scoring 106 goals in 258 games, laying on 67 assists.
Last month, Spanish newspaper Sport claimed that Rangers, Newcastle and Tottenham were all in the conversation of signing him. A return to Spurs would see him sign for the North London club for a third time.
Spurs themselves have just brought in Ivan Perisic and it remains unlikely that Antonio Conte would lure Bale back for another spell. Nevertheless, Bale is now a free agent having confirmed as much on Instagram.
Bale confirms Real Madrid exit: Newcastle, Tottenham or Rangers?
Tottenham do need a striker. Conte is seemingly happy to bring in experienced players in the likes of Perisic and Fraser Forster, and cover for Harry Kane is a necessity. If Bale is seen as only a striker, it could work.
But Conte’s high pressing, high intensity Spurs side does not suit Bale. He is more explosive in crucial moments of the match, hardly the type to initiate a press. Newcastle have the cash to sign him, and need attacking options.
A move to Rangers saw Aaron Ramsey struggle for match fitness, but the Gers can also offer Champions League football. He would have take an almighty pay cut to move to Ibrox, this summer.
