Newcastle United drew 0-0 with Porto on Saturday evening.

Newcastle United’s pre-season preparations continued on Saturday evening as they took on Porto in a friendly, and came away with a 0-0 draw.
The Magpies drew 2-2 at Hull City in a friendly on Tuesday night, but were in somewhat more glamorous surroundings on Saturday as they travelled to the Estadio do Dragao to take on the Portuguese champions.
Rafael Benitez’s men fought hard without particularly looking like scoring, and came away with a 0-0 draw as Newcastle continue to build up fitness for the new Premier League season.
The opening game of the season against Tottenham Hotspur is just two weeks away, and Benitez will not only be looking for his players to be raring to go, but will also be keen on new signings.
With Aleksandar Mitrovic set to complete a permanent move to Fulham, and Newcastle attempting to get deals over the line for both Salomon Rondon and Yoshinori Muto, an attacking overhaul looks imminent.
What that means for Spaniard Joselu is unclear, but the former Stoke City man – signed by Benitez last summer – did start against Porto in another goalless display.

Joselu struggled for goals last season and didn’t look any more dangerous against Porto, as the step up in class from Hull – a game in which he did score in – was clear, with his hard work and effort not leading to any goals.
With Rondon and Muto potentially incoming, Newcastle fans took to Twitter to blast Joselu as ‘garbage’, claiming that Newcastle were weak in attack and simply wouldn’t score with Joselu leading the line, joking about him carrying last season’s form into this.
