Everton legend Sylvain Distin admitted on his Instagram story last night that the Toffees second goal during their 2-0 win against Liverpool was ‘no penalty’.

Added with that, Crystal Palace winger Andros Townsend also weighed in on the controversy and shared on his Instagram story the ‘games gone’, as he was clearly unhappy at the decision that went against Trent Alexander-Arnold.

On a memorable evening at Anfield, those on the blue half of Merseyside recorded their first win in their rivals back yard this century.

Richarlison opened the scoring when James Rodriguez pounced on Liverpool losing possession before feeding a lovely-weighted ball for his fellow South American to put the Toffees into dreamland.

Whilst the Premier League champions dominated possession and started the second half the brightest, it was a deserved victory for Everton and a tactical masterclass from their trophy-laden coach, Carlo Ancelotti.

And their former centre-back, Distin, shared these views on Alexander-Arnold’s foul on Calvert-Lewin, as he burst through on goal.

“No penalty,” Distin wrote. “But it doesn’t matter,” added with a laughing emoji.

It’s now a real titanic battle for those European places and injury-stricken Liverpool will be looking over their shoulder.

Jordan Henderson hobbling off with a muscle injury helps no-one’s cause, as Jurgen Klopp’s men are facing the possibility of not just finishing outside of the top-four, but below their rivals.
