Cristian Gamboa appears to have endured a frustrating time at Celtic, but he insists that he is delighted to be at Parkhead.

Herald Scotland reported back in 2016 that the right-back cost the Bhoys £1 million, but it has proved to be a frustrating time for the 28-year-old, with just 19 appearances coming in the Scottish Premiership, and just three outings in all competitions this season.

With transfermarkt showing that he is out of contract at Parkhead at the end of next season, many Celtic fans would be forgiven for expecting a summer move to be on the cards. But Gamboa has suggested that he is enjoying life as part of Brendan Rodgers’ side, while he also expressed disappointment that he will not get the chance to face his Celtic teammate when Costa Rica meet Scotland later this week.

“I love being at Celtic. Sometimes you don’t play but that is football. I just hope to be involved in another treble. A double treble would be history. That would be nice.”
While Gamboa insists that he remains happy at Celtic, it would be a big surprise if he remained at the club beyond the summer, especially in light of recent selection decisions.
After picking up a red card against Aberdeen, Mikael Lustig has played a more peripheral role when he has not been suspended. But rather than bring Gamboa back into the side, Rodgers has opted to either deploy Jack Hendry or Kristoffer Ajer in a slightly wider role or have James Forrest as a wing-back.
It certainly looks as though Gamboa is going to need a major slice of fortune to get another chance in the side.
