Speaking on the Premier League’s YouTube channel, Alan Shearer has been full of praise for Aaron Ramsdale.
The goalkeeper has been nominated for the Young Player of the Year award, and as a part of the Premier League’s Rising Stars series, Shearer has been analysing the Englishman’s season.
Ramsdale has some very obvious qualities between the sticks for the Gunners, but Shearer focused on one more understated quality, Ramsdale’s character and ability to manage the defence.
Ramsdale, despite being so young, is a huge character, and Shearer says that he’s galvanised that backline and made everyone else step up their game.
What’s been said?
Shearer had nothing but good things to say about the Arsenal goalie.
“First up, Aaron Ramsdale. He got his opportunity early on, stepping in for Bernd Leno and he’s never looked back. As a goalkeeper his numbers are decent, his save percentage is around 72 per cent, he has a great command of his area as well as freeing his defence to push up more, and his distribution is excellent as well,” Shearer said.
“He’s added his personality to the team, big, brash and bold, Ramsdale has galvanised the defensive unit that has lacked steel and when he’s stepped up his game, so have those around him.”
“If this is Ramsdale at his best, he’s going to have one amazing career.”

Confidence
Shearer is absolutely right about Ramsdale, he’s galvanised this backline.
Not only do Arsenal’s defenders look more comfortable with Ramsdale behind them, but the goalkeeper is also very vocal when one of his defenders aren’t playing up to his expected standard.
At the age of just 23, Ramsdale has taken on the role of the on-field coach, and he makes sure that standards are kept high at the back.
There’s a reason Arsenal’s defensive record has improved so much this season, and Ramsdale has played a massive part in that.
