Wolves were trailing 2-0 against the Shrews at the New Meadow but salvaged a 2-2 draw for a place in the hat for the fifth round.
Wolverhampton Wanderers fans were made to sweat on a dramatic afternoon as they fell two goals behind to League One strugglers Shrewsbury Town and left it until deep into injury time to salvage a 2-2 draw in the fourth round of the FA Cup on Saturday.
After a goalless first half at the New Meadow, Greg Docherty opened the scoring for the Shrews in the 47th minute when he connected with Fejiri Okenabirhie’s pass before cutting inside and firing a powerful effort beyond the reach of Wolves keeper John Ruddy.
Things got even worse for Nuno Espirito Santo’s charges as they went on to concede once again in the 71st minute, Luke Waterfall getting on the end of a corner and sending a powerful header past Ruddy from close range.
Luckily for Wolves fans, the nerves were settled somewhat not long after as the visitors halved the deficit four minutes later through Raul Jimenez, who connected with an Adama Traore cross inside the area and fired past Shrews stopper Steve Arnold.
However, as the clock ticked by, things got very tense once again for the travelling contingent but, just like against Leicester, Wolves struck right at the death as Matt Doherty – himself scorer of a late goal against Newcastle earlier in the season – levelled with a header in the second minute of stoppage time.
