It’s a series of Thursday night games, which now presents itself to Liverpool and the Europa League, which is a good tournament for the side to try and use to get back into the Champions League for next season.
Ultimately, Basel’s European experience showed last night as they went 1-0 ahead at Anfield in front of the Kop and protected that advantage well before Steven Gerrard equalised.
There were a few frustrating elements to the performance for Liverpool, with Rickie Lambert among those to be criticised as he struggled to make the most of a chance to turn himself into a Kop favourite.
Focus now moves back to the Premier League and a difficult lunchtime trip to Old Trafford to face Manchester United this Sunday.
