Tottenham took on Juventus in Melbourne on Tuesday in what is the first of a trio of high-profile friendlies against top European opposition.

Travelling to Australia with a promising but inexperienced squad with just a smattering of first team players, Spurs and their manager Mauricio Pochettino will have been disappointed at the way they started the game, going 2-0 down after a series of poor defensive choices.

Paulo Dybala and then Medhi Benatia put the Serie A champions ahead as Tottenham and their many young players struggled to impose themselves on the game, despite the presence of new signings Victor Wanyama and Vincent Janssen.

Things slowly improved before half time, and Pochettino went on to alter the lineup for the second half, with a number of the substitutions improving the situation.

Argentina international Erik Lamela was someone who made a notable impact, getting a goal back early in the second half, and though there were a few other opportunities for Spurs to grab the equaliser, the match finished 2-1.

However, across the 90 minutes there were plenty of things for fans to be optimistic about, not the least the performance of 17-year-old midfielder Marcus Edwards who really caught the eye from the bench.
