The Whites striker helped Marcelo Bielsa’s side go top of the table as his two goals helped the Elland Road side defeat the Latics.
Leeds United ran out 2-0 winners over Wigan Athletic this afternoon and Patrick Bamford was the hero for the Whites with a brace which helped put the Elland Road side top of the table.
The 25-year-old has found himself criticised by the Leeds fanbase on numerous occasions but at the DW Stadium he put in a fruitful display which yielded dividends against a side down to ten men for much of the game.
Bamford’s first goal came on 34 minutes as a cross from the left was met by Adam Forshaw on the header and, although it struck the post, it fell kindly to the former Middlesbrough man, who paused and tapped in from point-blank range.
His second was not long after the hour mark in the second half, as a dismissed penalty shout – Pablo Hernandez’s cross appeared to be handled out – was nonetheless eventually turned into a goal, the corner kick not being cleared by Wigan, allowing Bamford to bundle home at the near post.
