The Norwegian has penned a permanent contract at Old Trafford but the Red Devils were pushed all the way by Javi Gracia’s Hornets.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer got his tenure as Manchester United permanent manager under way with a 2-1 win against Watford in Saturday’s Premier League encounter at Old Trafford.
The visitors were impressive from the off, with Gerard Deulofeu and Troy Deeney giving the Red Devils back line a torrid time, but for much of the game they simply could not make their dominance count.
Indeed, Watford had 20 shots to United’s six, with eight of them on target, but the deadlock was broken just before the half-hour mark by Marcus Rashford’s 10th Premier League goal of the season following a superb through ball from Luke Shaw.
United then doubled their lead midway through the second half, Anthony Martial scoring with a close-range finish, and even though the Hornets halved the deficit late on through Abdoulaye Doucoure, they could not stop the hosts from picking up all three points.
Since his debut for United in February 2016, Rashford has scored 45 goals for the club in all competitions, more than any other player, according to OptaJoe.
