Manchester City got their Champions League campaign off to an excellent start with a 4-0 win over Borussia Monchengladbach.
Star striker Sergio Aguero wasted no time in getting his side on the score sheet (even if it had some 24 hours later than planned) when he scored from close range after eight minutes.
He continued his sensational start to the season with a second from the penalty spot after Ilkay Gundogan was brought down.
In the 77th minute, he completed his hat-trick as he neatly rounded Yann Sommer. Kelechi Iheanacho added a fourth in injury time from 12 yards out.
City were dominant in Pep Guardiola’s first Champions League match in charge, managing 23 shots at goal compared to Monchengladbach’s three.
Given City’s failure to crack the Champions League, the victory will have strengthened the belief that this may be their year now that a Champions League winner is at the helm.
