The Whites defender replaced the dismissed Kiko Casilla in between the sticks in the 1-0 Championship loss to the Blades.
Saturday’s Championship game between Yorkshire rivals Leeds United and Sheffield United at Elland Road saw the Blades run out 1-0 winners over Marcelo Bielsa’s side and leapfrog their opponents to second in the table.
In a game bereft of concrete scoring opportunities, one clinical moment ended up proving the difference between the two sides and it came courtesy of a Blades stalwart playing as a makeshift midfielder.
Chris Basham slotted home the winner from just outside the box midway through the second half after Billy Sharp capitalised on a mistake by Whites captain Liam Cooper to bear down towards goal before slotting the ball into his teammate’s path.
According to Sky Sports, Sheff Utd only had the one effort on target, while Leeds had none at all, with the likes of Tyler Roberts, Jack Harrison and Pontus Jansson all trying their luck but coming up short.
Near the end of the game, goalkeeper Kiko Casilla was shown a red card in stoppage time for a professional foul on Billy Sharp, and with all three substitutions made, Jansson eventually went in between the sticks
