Didier Drogba inspired Chelsea to 3-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday night at Stamford Bridge, as Jose Mourinho’s side maintained their six-point lead at the top of the Premier League table.
Tottenham missed two early chances when in-form striker Harry Kane hit the bar and then dragged a shot wide, before the home team opened the scoring through Eden Hazard on 19 minutes after a neat one-two with Drogba.
The Ivorian, who was replacing the suspended Diego Costa in the line-up, then added a goal of his own soon after when keeper Hugo Lloris directed a goal-kick straight to Hazard, with the winger passing to Oscar, who in turn fed his veteran teammate for the second.
Chelsea would go on to dominating the second-half, with midfield partners Nemanja Matic and Cesc Fabregas stamping their presence on the match, before substitute Loic Remy sealed the win 17 minutes from the end by cutting inside of Jan Vertonghen to shoot past Lloris for his third strike of the season.
Manager Jose Mourinho reserved special praise for the performances of front men Drogba and Remy at the final whistle, telling Sky Sports News HQ: “Most important is our approach.
“We don’t cry because somebody is suspended, we just try to be positive and give confidence to the players that are going to play.
“I didn’t want to speak about Diego not playing because I know what I have. There was no Diego but Drogba and Remy both scored. They don’t play so many minutes but when they play they are there.”
With Mourinho’s current side equalling the record 23-game unbeaten run set in 2007 and repeated in 2009, here are some of the best images from another successful night at The Bridge.
