McNeill, the Hoops’ legendary 1967 European Cup-winning captain, passed away this week aged 79.
Celtic are now on the brink of an eighth successive Scottish Premiership title after they ran out 1-0 winners over Kilmarnock on an emotional Saturday at Parkhead.
The game saw tributes and respects paid to the Hoops’ 1967 European Cup-winning captain Billy McNeill, who passed away aged 79 earlier this week.
Ahead of kickoff, interim boss Neil Lennon and captain Scott Brown laid a wreath at McNeill’s statue and the crowd burst into a rendition of the Celtic Song.
With McNeill’s former Lisbon Lions teammates in attendance, a minute’s applause was held before the game got under way.
In addition, video tributes were shown, and Celtic’s players wore black armbands bearing the number five made famous by the former Hoops defender.
Jozo Simunovic, who wears the number five jersey, headed home the winner just after the clock had ticked into the 67th minute of the match.
The win for Celtic means Neil Lennon’s side will be crowned champions should Rangers fail to beat Aberdeen on Sunday.
Even if Steven Gerrard’s side do win against the Dons, the Hoops need just one point from their last three games to secure the title.
