Tottenham Hotspur defender Davinson Sanchez started Tuesday night’s 2-0 win over Swansea City.
Former Premier League referee Dermot Gallagher has told Sky Sports that Tottenham Hotspur defender Davinson Sanchez should have been sent off for a second yellow card on Tuesday night.
Sanchez, 21, was given his first yellow card during the first half after hauling down Swansea City’s Martin Olsson off the ball as Carlos Carvalhal’s side looked to get players in the box.
The Colombia international then gave referee Bobby Madley a big decision to make after a heavy first touch saw him lunge in on Olsson again. However, the Swedish left-footer got to the ball first and Sanchez wiped him out.
However, Madley decided not to give the former Ajax star a red card, and Mauricio Pochettino quickly withdrew the summer signing from the field of play. Gallagher believes that Madley made the wrong decision.
“Only Bobby knows [why he hasn’t given another yellow]. The ball is a giveaway for me, the ball is nowhere near the foul,” Gallagher said.
“For me, that’s the perfect example to send someone off for a second yellow card. Madley called the captain in, Sanchez was then substituted, and the whole pattern tells you all you need to know about the story.”
With the scoreline at 1-0 to Spurs thanks to Fernando Llorente’s controversial header, Swansea were edging into the game and against 10 men they certainly would have made it difficult for Pochettino’s side.
Instead, Spurs earned a comfortable 2-0 win thanks to a second goal from Dele Alli and now Sanchez is available for selection ahead of Thursday’s clash against West Ham United at Wembley
