Gaetano Berardi has told Leeds’ official website that he expects the Whites to have an incredibly bright future ahead of them after recently playing for the club’s under-23 side.

Like so many of the first-team stars who have been sidelined with long-term injuries this season, Berardi’s path back towards Marcelo Bielsa’s side dropped him off for a short stop with Carlos Corberan’s squad.

The Swiss has featured on a number of occasions for the under-23s, with his most recent display seeing him play in the dramatic Premier League Cup win against Fulham. He scored in the penalty shootout on that night – though, sadly, no pitch invasion took place – and was included in Bielsa’s squad for Saturday’s game against Sheffield United having come off the bench during the win at Bristol City.

And following his return to the first-team, Berardi explained what the experience of playing with the talented prospects at Thorp Arch was like.

“It is always good to play with them, they are a really good team and Carlos Corberan is doing a great job with them,” he told the club’s official website.

“It is like playing with the first team really, they try to play with the same style and it was nice. There are many, many good players and I believe Leeds will have a very good future with them.”

Leeds’ first-team are clearly in a fantastic position and are definitely moving in the right direction regardless of where they finish in the Championship this term. And it has been no secret that they have a number of talented youngsters pushing themselves onto Bielsa’s radar.

As Berardi notes, Corberan’s men play with the same system that Bielsa uses, and some of the football on show mirrors a lot of what the Elland Road faithful see when they are watching the first-team.

It has meant that a number of youngsters have needed little time to adapt when they make their senior debuts, and certainly hints that Leeds have now got the foundations back in place to ensure that this season is a stepping stone to better things.
