Paul Heckingbottom continues to come under huge criticism at Leeds United.
Leeds United defender Gaetano Berardi has told the club’s website in a particularly honest interview that he has been impressed by manager Paul Heckingbottom since his arrival at Elland Road.
The 29-year-old sat down with LUTV to discuss all things Leeds, after the one-time Switzerland international received his third red card of the season against Sunderland and has been subsequently banned for 10 games.
His suspension has piled on the defensive woes currently being suffered by the Yorkshire giants, with Liam Cooper, Pontus Jansson, Luke Ayling, Conor Shaughnessy and Laurens De Bock all sidelined through injury.
The former Sampdoria defender opened up when asked about Heckingbottom, since the Yorkshireman arrived from Championship neighbours Barnsley to replace Thomas Christiansen.
“He came here with good preparation on the pitch. Good tactics, good motivation. We are still working good with him and his staff. For me, we deserved a few more points,” Berardi said.
“We’ve played some good games maybe when we didn’t win, but we are working well. We are doing everything we can to prepare for the games.”
Since Heckingbottom’s arrival, Leeds have won just twice in 13 outings, with the latest result coming in the form of a 1-0 loss to Aston Villa – in what was a disjointed and lacklustre performance to say the least.
Steve Bruce’s Villa did not have to get out of second gear to earn all three points, and Heckingbottom will be hoping for a lot more from his Leeds side as they take on his former side Barnsley on Saturday at Elland Road.
