Leeds United suffered a hugely disappointing 1-0 defeat at home to Reading in the Championship.

Gaetano Berardi has told LUTV that while he understands the fans’ frustration following Leeds’ defeat to Reading on Saturday, he feels that they need to stay more positive.

Thomas Christiansen’s men may have gone into the clash with the Royals having lost three of their previous four Championship games, but the Whites were still favourites to clinch an important win, as they still boasted an impressive home record this season and the international break often throws the form book out of the window somewhat.

However, it was Jaap Stam’s side who took the spoils as former Leeds loanee Modou Barrow bagged the late winner, before Pablo Hernandez missed a penalty in the dying minutes to ensure that the game finished 1-0.

Unsurprisingly, the fans were not happy after the outcome in what had been an extremely poor game. But Berardi suggested that the supporters need to try and stay behind the team.

“It’s nice to see the stadium full,” he told LUTV.

“We could see the stadium like this all season, we need to get some good results for them. I would like to say a message to them. We would like to hear them more positive because I could hear some bad things during the game but it’s normal, it’s football. Everyone has to be positive, the players, the staff and everyone in the crowd.”

On a lighter note, Berardi is a much loved figure amongst the fans, and one thing the supporters clearly crave is to see the defender bag his first professional goal during his time with the club as they often promise to invade the pitch if he finds the back of the net.

And he expressed his hope that he will soon be able to provide that goal, and suggested that he was intrigued to see how the fans would actually respond.

“I hope that will come soon. When I have a chance, I try to score. I would like to see what will happen,” he added.

One thing that is surely for certain, had Berardi found an equaliser after all the late drama against Reading, it would have been more than likely that the stands would have emptied rapidly.
