Arsenal’s Brazilian defender had a fine performance against West Bromwich Albion this weekend.
Arsenal’s 4-1 win against West Bromwich Albion on Sunday saw some standout performances from the likes of Theo Walcott and Jack Wilshere, but defender Gabriel Paulista also impressed – at both ends of the pitch.
Since signing for the club from Villarreal back in January, the 24-year-old has had to be patient, featuring only eight times to date. But his latest performance showed just how good he is and may have caused Gunners boss Arsene Wenger a selection headache prior to the FA Cup final.
| Passing Accuracy | Outfield Blocks | Tackles Won | Duels Won | Aerials Won | Interceptions Won | Effective Clearances | Effective Headed Clearances | Mins Played | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Gabriel Paulista | 98% | 1 | 1 | 6 | 5 | 4 | 10 | 5 | 90 |
Gabriel set up Wilshere for his fine strike with a wonderfully composed pass that required both technique and quick thinking. While at the opposite end of the field he shone, finishing the game with a 98 per cent passing accuracy and making an impressive 15 effective clearances (10 with his feet and five with his head).
The Arsenal defender also won six duels, five aerial battles, four interceptions and one tackle, as well as making one outfield block.
In short, Gabriel was a class act and if not this season, then certainly next he looks set to be a first-choice member of Arsenal’s back-line.
