Leeds United have their new manager at the helm after securing the services of legendary coach Marcelo Bielsa on Friday morning, bringing the end to a two-week pursuit of the Argentinian.

The Whites sacked manager Paul Heckingbottom earlier this month, as the former Barnsley boss paid the price for winning just four games in 16 following his appointment as Thomas Christiansen’s replacement in February.

Owner Andrea Radrizzani went down the local, understated route with Heckingbottom but has now changed things up massively, securing a blockbuster appointment in former Argentina boss Bielsa.

The 62-year-old, who has been out of work since being sacked by Lille in December, has built up a huge reputation over the years, having produced great results with Chile, Athletic Bilbao and Marseille.

Bielsa is a complex character though; he left Lazio after just two days in 2016, but his influence has helped shape the coaching careers of both Pep Guardiola and Mauricio Pochettino, and his legendary status has Leeds fans excited.

The move has received a huge reaction from pundits and Leeds United fans, and now an Argentina legend has taken to Twitter to post a message about his former manager’s move to Elland Road.

Former striker Gabriel Batistuta, famed for his goalscoring records with Fiorentina and Argentina, worked under Bielsa with the latter, and congratulated his former boss on Twitter, adding that Leeds are getting a ‘great professional’.
