Garth Crooks has suggested that reported Tottenham Hotspur target Gabriel Jesus should leave Manchester City, as quoted on BBC Sport.

The former Tottenham forward has laid down the condition that Jesus should hand to City if he is to stay at the club.

The BBC pundit believes that if the 24-year-old Brazil international is not made the number one striker or is played alongside Harry Kane – if he joins City, of course – then he should leave Pep Guardiola’s team.

Tottenham Hotspur speculation

The Daily Star reported in May interest from Tottenham in the Brazil international, who is valued at £70 million.

The Sun claimed in July that the 24-year-old could replace Kane at Tottenham.

The Athletic reported last week that Premier League champions City are willing to sell Jesus this summer.

Garth Crooks’s stance

Former Spurs forward Crooks has included Jesus in his Premier League Team of the Week for BBC Sport for his performance against Norwich City this past weekend, and has suggested that he should leave.

Crooks wrote on BBC Sport: “Everyone seemed to accept that Gabriel Jesus was man of the match and I am inclined to agree. However, I cannot accept a coach, however good he might be, playing a world-class striker on the right of a three-man attack providing assists when he is perfectly capable of scoring goals himself.

“If Jesus knows what’s good for him he should tell City to either buy Harry Kane and let me play alongside him so we can forge a partnership – or make me your main man. Short of that, I’m off.”

What should Gabriel Jesus do?

If City sign Kane, then Jesus has to consider his future at the Premier League club.

The England international striker will surely be the number one striker at the Etihad Stadium.

The Brazilian will then play second fiddle just like he did when Sergio Aguero was at City.

Jesus is 24 now, and at this stage of his career, he should be looking to better himself and play regularly.

A move to Tottenham as a replacement for Kane might be a bad idea for the Brazilian.
