Gabby Agbonlahor has said that when Jesse Marsch commented about not being too fussed about Leeds United suffering a defeat if they play well after his side’s 2-1 loss to Aston Villa, just 2 Premier League games before their latest win against Manchester United that could have been a factor that led to his sacking.
With the Whites failing to get a single win under their belt in November, the decision to give the 49-year-old his marching orders has led to plenty of reactions from pundits such as Mark Schwarzer and Ian Wright.
While many have cited Leeds’ poor form as an obvious, yet crucial reason behind his sacking, Gabby Agbonlahor has his own theory about Jesse Marsch saying what he said after his side’s defeat against Aston Villa, just 2 matches before their victory against Manchester United also being a potential factor.
Gabby Agbonlahor on Jesse Marsch comments against Aston Villa before Manchester United game
It is inevitable that the Elland Road faithful will likely disagree with this take, considering their side was in 17th place when the big decision was taken.

However, Gabby Agbonlahor has said on talkSPORT before the Manchester United game that another reason behind the sacking of Jesse Marsch as Leeds boss could be his comments after his side dropped 3 points against Aston Villa.
“Do you know what didn’t help him? It was doing an interview after the loss to [Aston] Villa a few weeks ago and he [Jesse Marsch] said to the reporter, ‘I don’t mind losing games if we play like that.’ If you’re the Leeds board, you’re like, ‘no! We want to win games and stay in the league”, Agbonlahor said before Leeds’ latest win against Manchester United about the Marsch sacking from Leeds.
Unlikely to be the reality
Sure, the club’s board would perhaps prioritise results over style, considering the precarious situation they find themselves in.
But it is unlikely that Leeds United, or any team would make as huge a decision as sacking their manager (Jesse Marsch, in this instance) based on his post-match comments (against Villa, for example), regardless of the rationale presented by Gabby Agbonlahor before the side’s latest game against Manchester United.
Andrea Radrizzani took the decision, as reported and one can safely assume it was based on a lot more than just the now-former Leeds boss’ comments.
