Tottenham Hotspur are doing extremely well at the moment, and one of the best players has been James Maddison.

James Maddison joined Tottenham Hotspur from Leicester City in the summer transfer window.

I expected Maddison to star for Spurs.

And, he is doing just that.

The £170,000-a-week (Spotrac) 26-year-old England international attacking midfielder has scored two goals and given five assists in eight Premier League matches this season.

Spurs are at the top of the Premier League table with 20 points from eight matches, level on points with North London rivals Arsenal.

Former Aston Villa striker and talkSPORT pundit Gabby Agbonlahor has been hugely impressed by Maddison.

The pundit believes that Maddison has been the best signing of the season of the season and has transformed Tottenham.

Agbonlahor told talkSPORT when asked about the best signing so far this season: “It’s between Maddison and [Liverpool’s Dominik] Szoboszlai. Maddison because he’s just added that different dimension to Spurs.

“You had [Giovani] Lo Celso hanging around, before you had [Bryan] Gil and it was a hard watch. Maybe that’s why the manager had to play five at the back.

“Now you’re watching them and Maddison’s getting on the ball. The assist against Luton in tight places, he can score goals, a great goal against Burnley.

“For the money as well, £40million, I think Leicester going down has done Spurs a favour. I just think the way Maddison is fitting in at Spurs has to be the signing of the summer.”

My View: James Maddison the perfect Christian Eriksen replacement at Tottenham

In my opinion, James Maddison is the perfect replacement for Christian Eriksen at Tottenham Hotspur.

Danish playmaker Eriksen was superb during his time at Tottenham and was one of the best and most important players in the team.

Spurs really struggled to find a replacement for the Dane after he left.

And now they have finally found the perfect replacement.

Maddison is one of the best English playmakers out there and has taken his game to another level this season.

The playmaker is flourishing in his role at Spurs and is relishing the responsibility of being the main main behind the strike (s).

Maddison has made 171 appearances in the Premier League so far in his career.

The England international has scored 45 goals and given 37 assists in those games.
