Gabby Agbonlahor has stated on Twitter ‘we sign who we want’ after he reacted to the transfer news that Aston Villa have signed Chicago Fire striker, Jhon Durán.

Off the field of play, it can’t be argued that Villa operate in an outstanding fashion. They proved that when they signed Danny Ings out of the blue during the summer of 2021.

Well, they were at it again on Monday, this time securing the services of the unknown teenage striker, Duran, as posted by the club’s official Twitter account.

This is Unai Emery’s second signing of the January transfer window after the arrival of left-back Alex Moreno, who made his debut during Villa’s 2-1 win over Leeds United on Friday night.

With a number of weeks left until the winter transfer window slams shut, there’s no doubt that more should arrive through the door, it’s just a case of what deals the club can push over the line.

Nonetheless, upon the announcement that Duran, 19, has joined the club, this was the reaction of former Villa striker, Agbonlahor.

INTERESTING MOVE BY VILLA

Duran hasn’t been brought in to go back on loan or to spend time with the academy, but to play in the first team.

It’s an interesting move by the club and it remains to be seen where he fits in the pecking order of strikers – Ollie Watkins and Danny Ings, as well as Cameron Archer, who has been loaned out to Middlesbrough this month.

It wouldn’t be a surprise if one of Watkins or Ings is moved on in the summer, but Archer is a player that is very much liked and rated by the fans.

Either way, it bulks up Emery’s forward line and if Duran, who has represented Colombia on the international stage, can be as good as a certain past favourite in Juan Pablo Angel, then the supporters will be very pleased.
