Gabriel Agbonlahor would be interested in a move to Ibrox or Parkhead.
Former Aston Villa striker Gabby Agbonlahor has told the Press Association, as quoted by Sports Mole, that he isn’t interested in a move to Scotland – unless it was for Celtic or Rangers.
Agbonlahor, 32, came through the ranks with boyhood club Aston Villa, and looked to be on a path to stardom after hitting 49 goals in his first four full seasons in the Villa first team.
The striker won three England caps, and was terrifying defenders with his pace, but it all seemed to come to a grinding halt for the forward at Villa Park.
With just 36 goals for Villa since the start of the 2010-11 season, Agbonlahor became a shadow of his former self, and struggled with injuries and fitness in recent years.
At the end of last season, Agbonlahor’s Villa contract came to an end, and after a lengthy spell with his boyhood club, Agbonlahor was released, becoming a free agent over the summer.
Agbonlahor remains a free agent having failed to find a new club, but he has now revealed that he has had offers from clubs in Scotland, which he felt weren’t right for him.
In fact, Agbonlahor even hinted that, unless it’s Celtic or Rangers, he has no interest in playing in the Scottish Premiership, as a move north of the border simply doesn’t excite him.
“I appreciate the offers, it just didn’t feel right,” said Agbonlahor about deals offered by Championship clubs. “As for the SPL, unless it’s one of the big couple of clubs, to be honest, that doesn’t excite me,” he added.
Celtic and Rangers may well in the market for a new striker in January, but having struggled with fitness even when he was in and around the Villa first team, it’s hard to see either of the Old Firm duo moving for Agbonlahor any time soon.
