Gabby Agbonlahor believes that one Premier League club will regret selling their talented player to Aston Villa this summer.

Under Unai Emery last season, Aston Villa pulled off the impossible and finished in a UEFA Champions League spot for the first time in the Premier League era.

This summer promises to be a crucial one for Villa with the club needing to be smart in the transfer market to comply with the Premier League’s profit & sustainability rules.

Agbonlahor believes Chelsea will regret sale this summer

Maatsen spent the second half of last season on loan at Borussia Dortmund and the Dutchman excelled for the German side as they reached the Champions League final at Wembley Stadium.

HITC have reported that a deal to take Maatsen to Villa is agreed as the club now working on agreeing personal terms with the Dutchman.

Speaking on talkSPORT, former Villa striker Gabby Agbonlahor believes that Chelsea are making a big mistake by selling the left-back.

When asked if the Blues will regret this sale, Agbonlahor said: “100%. I get why they are letting him go, £35-40million, they’ve already got Marc Cucurella, they’ve got Ben Chilwell, they don’t need another left back.

“But he could end up being better than both.

“Young age of 22, we’ll bite their hands off. He’s a player who’s going to play every week, six year deal, Aston Villa are going to start doing that as well with youngsters, getting them signed up long term.

“So I think it’s one that Chelsea will regret and one that Aston Villa fans are going to love. He’ll start and then it wouldn’t surprise me if Lucas Digne moves on and Alex Moreno is the back-up left back.”

Chelsea signed Marc Cucurella for £63 million. He has had a tough time at Stamford Bridge, but Maatsen has not had a chance in his place.

Chelsea’s need to sell this summer for PSR

HITC have reported that the club are open to selling more of their youngsters or academy graduates this summer to try and improve the club’s financial situation.

Conor Gallagher is the player they believe can achieve the most money and HITC understands that Villa are one of the interested sides to sign the English midfielder currently away at EURO 2024.

Trevoh Chalobah and Albanian forward Armando Broja are also understood to be two players who the West London club are keen on selling.
