Gary Neville has said on his podcast that he would have wanted Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City to win against Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool in the Champions League final this season.
The former Manchester United defender has said that he would have liked Premier League sides Liverpool and Manchester City to face each other in the final of the Champions League this season.
Liverpool beat Villarreal in the semi-finals of the Europe’s premier club competition this season, but City could not get past Real Madrid in the last four.
Gary Neville on Liverpool and Manchester City
Neville said on his podcast: “I actually thought Manchester City could beat Liverpool in the final.
“Obviously they are the great rivals, and we cannot have them getting ahead in the Champions League or titles, to be honest with you.”

Lose-lose situation
In our opinion, if Manchester City were playing against Liverpool in the Champions League final this season, then it would have been a lose-lose situation for Gary Neville and Manchester United fans.
United and Liverpool are traditional rivals, while the Red Devils and City are city rivals.
City have done extremely well in the Premier League over the past 12 or so years, and you could argue that they are now more attractive and appealing than United.
At least with Madrid in the final, there is a chance that Liverpool would not win the Champions League.
United fans could end up with a situation where City win the Premier League title and Liverpool clinch the Champions League this season.
