Alan Smith has claimed that Aaron Ramsdale was ‘furious’ with Nuno Tavares during Arsenal’s 2-1 defeat to Everton on Monday night, as he told Sky Sports PL.

The former striker stated that before Everton equalised through Richarlison – at the third time of asking – Ramsdale seemingly wanted the Arsenal left-back to ‘do more’ to stop Anthony Gordon’s cross.

Tavares had actually come on for Kieran Tierney in the second half, but it was an action-packed and drama-filled 30 minutes for the player during his time on the pitch.

Before Ramsdale vented his anger towards him, Tavares was actually on the end of a heavy challenge from Gordon.

And Smith pointed out that a reason why he wasn’t doing his job as well as he could have done was because he was still ‘limping’ from that previous Gordon tackle.

Nonetheless, this is what Smith had to say about how Ramsdale felt towards Tavares during the game.

“Ramsdale furious with Tavares for not trying to stop that cross and trying to do more,” said Smith.

“Maybe he is still suffering from that challenge (by Gordon). He is limping.”

Tavares wasn’t at his best during his brief time on the pitch and he came up against an Everton side that were in the faces of their opponents.

After losing to Manchester United last Thursday, Mikel Arteta opted to bring Kieran Tierney back into the fold at left-back last night.

The Scotsman actually provided Martin Odegaard with the assist for the opening goal.

But just like at Old Trafford, the Gunners took the lead and after the game found themselves leaving empty-handed.

That’s just going to increase the pressure on Arteta and questions being asked as to the type of job he is doing in North London and whether there is progression.
