Helsinborgs midfielder Armin Gigovic is thrilled to see speculation linking him with a move to Wolverhampton Wanderers, admitting to Fotboll Direkt that the rumours are ‘fun to hear’.

A Wolves side who have snapped up exciting youngsters from Lazio, Bayern Munich, PSV Eindhoven and Real Madrid during the last 12 months have another fresh-faced prospect in their sights; albeit one who is honing his talents in less illustrious surroundings.

Sweden youth star Gigovic might still be a teenager but he has already established himself as a key part of the Helsingborg side, making 14 appearances in the Allsvenskan already.

According to reports emerging from Scandinavia, a deep-lying midfielder who can also play on the left has found himself on the radar of not only Wolves but also CSKA Moscow and Amiens, while an unnamed Italian club have made a £1 million bid for his services.

“Sure, it’s fun to hear,” Gigovic said when asked about the ongoing speculation.

“This means you know they have their eyes on one. So it’s important to keep working hard.

“I want to be more of an attacking player who wants to have a ball and helps both start and finish moves. In terms of defence, I have worked hard, I am a strong runner.

“Now it is important not to lose motivation. I have a smile on my face every day because I love to play football.”

Interestingly, Gigovic is now plying his trade under former Aston Villa captain Olof Mellberg at Helsingborgs.

You would think that a Swedish legend who spent seven years in the Midlands would only have positive things to say about life in Britain with Gigovic seemingly set to make a career-changing move sooner rather than later.

The youngster is out of contract in 2021.
