Speaking on the Footballer’s Football Podcast, Michail Antonio has been discussing Jarrod Bowen’s goal against Everton and his feelings at the time.
Antonio, of course, was buzzing to get the win against the Toffees, but he says he was absolutely fuming when Bowen scored as he wanted a goal for himself.
Antonio was in a great position to score before Bowen converted the rebound, and it’s fair to say the Jamaican was frustrated that his name wasn’t on the scoresheet instead.

Antonio spoke about Bowen’s goal.
“It was a bit disappointing to be fair. If you look back at the goal, when he runs behind the goal, look at my face, I am fuming. I am fuming, but you know what? I’m happy the team won, yeah yeah. Pablo put me in, I was down the line, I really wanted to cut in on my right, but Ben Godfrey was there, the guy is rapid by the way, I took it on my left, tried to go across the goalkeeper, and it drops to Jarrod Bowen, like it does all the time, and he puts it into the back of the net,” Antonio said.
Striker’s mentality
It’s rare to hear a player be angry about their own team scoring a goal, but to be honest, we can see where Antonio is coming from here.
The Jamaican is a striker, and what do strikers want to do? Score goals.
The unfortunate reality is that Antonio has only scored once in 2022 so far, and we can understand how seeing Bowen mop up an easy chance created by himself could have been frustrating.
Luckily, Antonio seems to have the right mindset, and it shouldn’t be long before he’s back scoring again.
