‘Fuming’… Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp was really angry over incident involving £150,000-a-week Chelsea player

Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool have beaten Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea in the final of the Carabao Cup.

Netherlands international central defender Virgil van Dijk scored the only goal of the match in the 118th minute. Liverpool won 1-0.

Liverpool midfielder Ryan Gravenberch injured vs Chelsea

One disappointment for Liverpool was the injury to Ryan Gravenberch. The Netherlands international midfielder had to be taken off before the half-hour mark.

Chelsea midfielder Moises Caicedo came into contact with Gravenberch. The 22-year-old £150,000-a-week (Spotrac) Ecuador international landed on the ankle of the 21-year-old in a collision that saw the youngster stretchered off.

According to BBC Sport, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp was not happy at all with the officials’ decision not to even give Caicedo a yellow card.

Football.London has noted that “the tackle by Caicedo was seen as reckless, rather than serious foul play”, so VAR did not overturn the on-field decision.

While noting the incident, BBC Sport reported at the time that Klopp was “fuming with the officials”.

Gravenberch, who has been compared to Paul Pogba, joined Liverpool from Bayern Munich in the summer of 2023.

The Netherlands international midfielder has had injury problems, and we have not seen the best of him.

The 21-year-old, who is rated highly by Klopp, has made nine starts and 10 substitute appearances in the Premier League for Liverpool this season.

The youngster has scored two goals and provided one assist in four starts and one substitute appearance in the UEFA Europa League for the Reds this campaign.

Now that Liverpool have won the Carabao Cup, they will be determined to clinch the Premier League, the UEFA Europa League and the FA Cup.
