Andy Halliday has told the Scottish Football Podcast that David Turnbull is a player who is ‘full of energy’ and has a great eye for goal as he seemingly closes in on a move to Celtic.
Neil Lennon already has a number of high-quality midfield players to choose from, and Halliday warned that Turnbull may initially ‘struggle’ to break into the first-team despite thinking he might be able to do so straight away.
The Scottish Sun have reported that Celtic will clinch the signing of Turnbull this week after he picked the Scottish Premiership champions over a number of clubs in England.
Halliday would have come up against Turnbull during his time at Ibrox, as he raved about him as a player and how things can work out for him at Parkhead.
“I think on the back of a remarkable season he had a couple of years ago, and a move to Celtic was closer, I think he will have it at the back of his mind that he can break into the Celtic team,” said Halliday.
“I think the issue for him is if he’s not then will they allow him to go out and maybe go back to Motherwell for the season and progress his development?
“But he’s young and he still has plenty of years ahead of him to try and break into the Celtic team if it doesn’t happen straight away then I am sure it will in time.

“He’s somebody you have to get tight to because he has got a great strike. Half of his [goals] a couple of years ago were outside the box. He is someone, I am sure, who plenty of teams will be doing their homework on. He’s young, industrious and full of energy, so I am sure he will be a good addition to Celtic.
“But it’s an area of the park where Celtic are deep, so initially he might struggle to get into the team.”
This deal has seemingly been a year in the making because the Bhoys wanted to sign the attack-minded midfielder last summer, only for a knee issue forcing the deal to collapse.

Now, all three parties involved will be hoping nothing stops the deal going over the line now because it has been a frustrating one for all.
From Turnbull’s perspective, it is a special time to move to Celtic now because this will be a season that will be remembered and it will go down in the history books given what is at stake.
