The Capital One Cup proved a thrilling ride last season with plenty of upsets and intrigue along the way.
Last year, eventual League Two champions Burton Albion triumphed over Premier League Queens Park Rangers in the second round, while Sheffield Wednesday recorded a fine win away at Turf Moor to condemn Burnley to an early exit.
The big story was Sheffield United’s amazing run to the semi-final. Only a magical Cristian Eriksen performance prevented the Yorkshire club from reaching a historic final. Chelsea got the better of Spurs in the final to clinch what was Jose Mourinho’s first trophy in his second stint at Stamford Bridge.
This year’s first round draw sees all three relegated Premier League sides facing tricky away trips. Hull City travel to League Two Accrington Stanley. QPR also face League Two opposition in the form of Yeovil, as back-to-back relegations consign the Somerset club to England’s fourth tier. Burnley go to Vale Park for their tie against League One Port Vale.
